The magic milk experiment really is magical.  Kids can use the secret ingredient to make colors explode on a plate of milk. It’s one of those science and art activities that never gets old!

Magic Milk Science Experiment!

Magic Milk Experiment

  • dish of milk
  • food coloring
  • cotton swabs
  • dish soap

To do the magic milk experiment pour some milk into the dish and squeeze drops of food coloring in the center of the plate with a small space in the middle.

Add dish soap to the cotton swab and touch the swab to the center of food coloring and get ready for some color!

The colors keep swirling around even with just one touch of the dish soap–it’s very cool to watch.

Magic Milk Science Experiment for Kids

My kids like to experiment with adding the food coloring in different places and touching the dish soap to different spots to see how that changes the reaction.

It’s also a great color mixing activity if you add two primary colors to the dish for kids to watch mix.

We tried this this week using 1% milk in one dish, and heavy cream in another – the kids were quite impressed with the difference.
