Sight Word Pumpkin Patch

We are all about pumpkins this time of year!  Recently, we made these pumpkin print craft with a secret item and thumbprints.  (Seriously very fun!)  We just had to use the cute pumpkins in an activity.

My Big Sister (age 7) is a first grader this year, and the sight word practice continues.  We’ve been practicing sight words in a lot of fun ways and this pumpkin patch sight word activity was a big hit!

Sight Word Pumpkin Activity:

I started by cutting out our pumpkin stamps.

We used a few materials for this activity:  Green embroidery floss, tape, green card stock, and scissors.  I taped the string across the card stock and taped it around the back side.  Our pumpkin patch vines were done.

On the back of the pumpkins, I wrote out Big Sister’s sight words.

Next, I taped the pumpkins to the vines.  Big Sister got busy “picking” pumpkins.  She turned the pumpkins over and read the sight words.

She was thrilled with this pumpkin activity!

Next time you go to the pumpkin patch, look for the pumpkins with the sight words on them!

Fantastic idea! My grandsons are working on this today. I adapted this a little bit. First, I used a milk jug cap for stamping the orange pumpkins. For each grandson, I wrote letters or sounds they had been studying on some white paper, spacing them so there would be room for the pumpkin stamping. Before stamping each pumpkin, they had to give me the sound or letter. When they were correct, they could stamp the letter with a pumpkin. These are drying right now, but I intend to use the finished pumpkins to make a garland. If I need more, I will have the first grade grandson review his sight words before stamping some more pumpkins. Thanks for the inspiration!
