Witch Hat Cupcakes for Kids

Halloween snacks and treats are half the fun of October!

We made some super simple and yummy witch hat cupcakes to eat after reading the book Room on the Broom. It’s a fun story by Julia Donaldson about a witch and her cat who encounter a bunch a helpful friends.

Each time the generous witch makes room on her broom for them to ride too until they encounter a dangerous dragon, but we’ll let you read it yourself to see what happens!

Witch Hat Cupcakes for Halloween

  • chocolate cupcakes
  • chocolate frosting
  • Keebler Fudge Striped Cookies
  • waffle cones
  • kitchen shears
  • cupcakes decorations like sprinkles and icing (optional)

These cupcakes are so simple to make! Even preschoolers can spread their own chocolate frosting and decorate their witch hat cupcakes.

To prep the supplies I cut the cones down a little bit with my kitchen shears so that they would fit on the cupcake. You can’t cut them perfectly (at least I couldn’t!) but it doesn’t matter. They frosting covers it all up.

We started by frosting the cupcakes and sticking a cookie on top.  Then they frosted the cone and stuck it on top of the cookie with some more of the chocolate frosting.

This is all you need to do to make the hat that the witch has in the story! If you have kiddos, like mine, that want to put their own spin on the hat then let them add the icing and the sprinkles however they would like.
