Play dough mats make great busy bags–kids get a fun hands on activity that is easy to take on the go! We love to use play dough for math practice and came up with this fun cookie math counting and addition activity.
Cookie Math Busy Bag Supplies:
- Play dough
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Play Dough Math Mat Free Printable
That’s it! This busy bag is super easy to put together. Just print the play dough mat printable and grab some play dough! I laminated the play dough mat with my laminator (I’ll leave an affiliate link for you at the end) but you can also cover it with clear contact paper too.
Cookie Math Games
Preschoolers
- They can make chocolate chips for the cookie and practice counting how many there are.
- You can tell them a number and have them make that many chocolate chips on the cookie.
Primary Kids
- They can practice making patterns with different size chocolate chips.
- They can use the chocolate chips as manipulatives for simple addition and subtraction problems.
Grade School Kids
- They can use the chocolate chips as manipulatives to help them solve word problems.
- They can use a pencil eraser to make indents in large chocolate chips and practice skip counting by different numbers.
Making play dough chocolate chips is also just plain fun! Kids get the chance to practice their fine motor skills while decorating a pretend cookie. Set out different color play dough and markers and glitter and see what they come up with. This busy bag can also double as a fun invitation to create!
