Easy Homemade Bubble Recipe for Kids

One of our favorite things to do outside is to blow bubbles! It’s always fun, but it’s especially nice to do in the shade on a hot day.

This is one of our favorite homemade bubble recipes because it is so easy to make.

EASY Homemade Bubble Recipe!

Homemade Bubble Recipe

  • 4 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup of corn syrup
  • 1/2- 2/3 cup of dish soap

You want the water to be fairly warm. I heat it up in my kettle and well before it starts boiling I take it off and dump it into our bubble jar. If you have really hot tap water you can probably use that too.

 How to Make Bubbles

You add the corn syrup to the warm water and stir it until it dissolves. Then add the dish soap.

We used to only use Dawn dish soap but now I use whatever I have. This batch was made with lime and sea salt Method dish soap and it smelled delicious.

Homemade Bubble Fun!

After it sits and cools it’s time to play!

Homemade Bubble Solution Recipe for Kids

We think the solution gets even more bubbly after the first day so feel free to make it in advance.

We make ours in a big half gallon mason jar because the measurements are on the side and there is a top for storage but if you are worried about the glass breaking use whatever container you have.

Blowing bubbles is one of our Old School Summer activities!

Corn flour and water won’t work. Do you have simple syrup? Or could you make a quick simple syrup with sugar and water? That may be the closest. We’ve also used glycerine when I have it too.

Golden syrup is the UK equivalent of what Americans term corn syrup.

I wanted to ask, but using corn syrup does it make things sticky that it touches?

Im sorry, I meant, by using corn syrup does it make things sticky that it lands on or if it drips down the bubble wand does it make a sticky mess on your hands Also, should you be careful where you blow the bubble, curious if it might attract insects of any kind due to the sweet syrup Thanks in advance!!

We haven’t had any trouble with it attracting insects–if you are going to store it outside I would keep it covered though.

No, it becomes a regular bubble mixture consistency like you would buy at the store. You should be fine!

Dawn isn’t toxic, think about it, They use it to clean birds and other animals that have been covered in oil after oil spills. It is safe to use. I have used it on my dogs when they get into something really greasy.
