Summer Sky Salt Watercolor Craft

Summer calls for simple and easy crafts.  This sunny sky salt watercolor painting craft fits the bill!  We had so much fun creating and painting a summer sky with lots of fine motor fun mixed in.  If you’ve ever done salt painting before, you know how much fun it is to mix watercolors and watch the textures change as the paint dries.

Summer Sun Craft for Kids

To make our sun, we snipped the sides of a paper tube.  This would be a great way to practice scissor skills.  The thick paper of a paper tube is great for controlled scissor snips.  Next, we painted the whole thing with some bright yellow paint.

Let the paint dry and you’ve got a great summer sun!  A little bend to keep them in place, and our sun was done. As this dried, we got started on our watercolor fun.

Salt Watercolor Painting

We covered a piece of white paper with different shades of blue, green, and purple watercolors.  We made sure the paints were really saturated with water.  Once the paper was completely covered in pretty colors, we sprinkled (poured) salt all over the page.
It took a day for the salt watercolor paper to dry (it was reeeeeally wet!).   But once it was, we glued on our paper tube sun.

They turned out looking really cute and perfect for a fun summer craft!
