Once you discover the joys of brain breaks you’ll be shocked at how well they work to help kids focus. It’s amazing how something so simple works so well. I first heard about brain breaks as an education major in college and immediately started using them myself when I was studying or working on a big project and was hooked.
I used them in my classroom when I was teaching and find them to be extremely helpful at home with my own kids. They are a favorite strategy of teachers everywhere because they make such a difference in kids’ ability to learn and focus, which is especially helpful in today’s high stakes educational environment.
What are brain breaks?
So just what are brain breaks? They are short mini-activities that help kids activate and stimulate their brains. When kids start to get antsy in class or at home a brain break gives them a chance to stop and do something active to help keep theirs brains alert. Something as simple as do 10 jumping jacks can get the wiggles out and help them better focus.
STEM Themed Brain Breaks
Using hands-on STEM activities as brain breaks takes the benefits to a new level. A fun and active STEM activity that only takes a minute or two to do not only helps kids focus, it also gets them excited about STEM!
We’ve partnered with Sylvan Learning again this month to share some of out favorite STEM themed brain breaks for kids. If you kids love minute to win it style events then they’ll love these activities.
Use them to break up a long homework session or a big project, you’ll be amazed at how well they work!
Thanks to Sylvan Learning for sponsoring this post and encouraging hands-on STEM fun!
Don’t let the fun and discovery stop there!
