Have you ever seen apple seeds dance?
No?
Then you have to put this apple seed science experiment on your must do list. Kids (and grown ups) will flip when they see it!
We decided to put a fall spin on the classic Dancing Raisins Experiment and were thrilled that it totally worked.
All you need are two ingredients from your kitchen and you can have apple seeds dancing at your house in no time too.

Cool Apple Seed Science Experiment
Supplies:
- clear glass
- Sprite or other clear soda
- apple seeds

Dancing Apple Seeds
- Cut the apple open and remove the seeds.
- Fill the glass with the soda.
- Drop the apple seeds in.
Give it a minute or two (depending on how dense your apple seeds are) and watch them start to dance!
Extend the learning:
After you try it with one type of soda test out different types of sodas and liquids to see how they compare.
The liquid needs to be carbonated for any “dancing” to occur, but it’s fun for kids to discover that for themselves so don’t be afraid to try things you know won’t work.

How Does it Work?
The apple seeds are more dense than the soda so they sink to the bottom. At the bottom air bubbles from the soda then form on the outside of the seeds which cause them to float up to the top.
When the bubbles pop they sink back down which makes it look like they are dancing!

This did not work. We used sprite and 5 apples seeds. They just float.
Did you use fresh Sprite? Or a bottle that had been opened for awhile? We’ve done this a lot and they should sink and then bubble up with the carbonation.
This looks really cute. We’ll give it a whirl!
