Christmas Tree Decorating Felt Busy Bag

My kids love to decorate and redecorate the Christmas tree.  They get to have a tree in their rooms each year to display their homemade ornaments and are constantly moving things around. Something about the power to actually touch and play with the tree is just intoxicating.

I decided to build on this enthusiasm and make a Christmas tree felt busy bag that they could decorate (and redecorate) as much as they wanted. It has proved to be a great boredom buster!

Christmas Tree Decorating Felt Busy Bag for Kids!

Christmas Tree Felt Busy Bag Supplies:

  • stiff green felt (I used the sparkly kind!)
  • soft felt scraps in any color you have
  • fabric scissors
  • fabric glue or hot glue (optional)

To make the base I folded the stiff green felt in half and drew the outline of half of a tree on one of the sides.  I then used the fabric scissors to cut it out and to cut little circle ornaments out of the other colors.

You can glue the brown trunk to the tree or leave it separate it’s up to you.

How to Make a Christmas Tree Felt Board Busy Bag

Since I used the stiff felt the tree itself acts as a felt board and you don’t really need anything else for this busy bag!  If you want to take it in the car just set it on a lap tray or inside a shirt box to make it easier to play with.

We’ve actually had the busy bag you see in the photos for years. Just stick it in a resealable plastic bag for storage and pack the bag away with the rest of your Christmas decorations. Then each year you’ll have a fun activity for them to look forward to doing. I think this year we may add some sparkly beads and string to our busy bag for even more fun!

There are tons of simple to make busy bags and quiet time Christmas activities for kids! Here are some fun ones to try with your little ones this year…That I Spy bottle looks like such fun!

I have one of these in my preschool and the children love it each year. I make it a shape tree by making the ornaments various shapes and colors to work on those skills.
