Who doesn’t love beautiful fall leaves? I know I do. Here in FL our leaves don’t change color in the fall so we made leaf chalk art instead.
This is a fun one to do even if you do live somewhere the leaves change colors–bring some inside for a simple art project!

Leaf Chalk Art
- leaves
- chalk markers
- clear tape if you want to tape them to your windows like we do!
Begin by collecting leaves from outside. Look for ones that have fallen to the ground, but that haven’t gotten crunchy yet. This makes them easier to draw on.
Once you or the kids have gathered a bunch of leaves wipe them off with a paper towel and grab the chalk markers. Encourage kids to experiment with the texture of the chalk marker on the leaf and create any designs they want.
The chalk markers are meant for non-porous surfaces so you may want to place something under the leaves while you work. We found it was easy to wipe the chalk marker off the leaf with a paper towel if you want to change your design.
I just love how they turned out! I think we have more leaf chalk art in our future.
Doodling and drawing is a great way to slow down and unwind. Leaf chalk art is a good activity to set up as an invitation to create for kids after school or during quiet time. Creating is a great way to reset for the rest of the day and drawing on leaves is something you can do even when you don’t have a lot of time.

What a great idea! We have the same problem with a definite lack of fall leaves in our area. I’ll be sure to try this with my daughter after school today! Thank you for sharing this idea.
