Love Boat Valentine Card Holder Craft

Valentine’s Day is such a fun time to craft with kids!  They can make homemade cards and presents for friends and family and create their own valentine card holder to store all of the cards they receive.  All three of my kids need to make a valentine mailbox for school so we have been busy creating this weekend.  My daughter decided she wanted to make a love boat valentine box this year!

How to Make a Love Boat Valentine Card Holder for Kids

Valentine Card Holder

  • empty tissue or shoe box
  • paint
  • straw
  • colored paper
  • stickers
  • glitter (optional)

She started by giving the box a couple coats of paint.  Then she cut a triangle out for the sail and decorated it with some heart stickers.

She added glitter to the box, but if you don’t want to use glitter you can decorate the painted box with stickers or even leave it plain.  We then taped the sail to a straw and stuck it through a hole in the top of the box.

Valentine's Day Mailbox for Kids!

She knew right away she wanted to make a boat card holder for her valentines, but it’s okay if your kids don’t have any ideas at first.  It’s a great opportunity to develop their problem solving skills by sending them throughout the house looking for something to use for their card holder.  Once they find the base prompt them to come up with ideas.  If they are stuck have them look online for inspiration and let them put their own spin on it.

If you make your own version of the love boat share it on my Facebook page–I’d love to see it!
