Be a Financial Role Model for Your Kids

Money matters can be stressful, especially for parents. Many feel so overwhelmed by finances that they can’t take a step forward to fix it. No one wants their kids to go through this same kind of stress so it’s important to be a financial role model. Luckily, with support, taking steps toward financial freedom is easier than ever.

We just need to start thinking about money differently.

Why its so important to be a financial role model for your kids and tips to get you started!

We’ve partnered with SunTrust to help parents get the support they need to move past their worry and take a single step forward.

Money shouldn’t cause make you lose sleep, cause fights, or make you skip a doctor’s visit. And even more importantly it shouldn’t be the reason you can’t be present in the moment with your kids, present in any of the moments that matter most to you.

Take control of your financial future!

80% of people admitted that their personal finances kept them awake at night.

That needs to change. Parents are already up in the middle of the night to feed babies, calm fears and take little ones to the potty–no one has time to lose sleep over money!

Be a financial role model for your kids.

I remember the first year Christmas after my oldest was born–I was shocked by how much we spent on gifts! Not just on her, but on everyone. We realized that now that we were parents (and living off only one income) we needed to come up with a Christmas budget.

We sat down and created a gift giving spreadsheet and decided how much each month we were going to put away each month to be ready for next year. That way when Christmas rolled around we weren’t stressed about how much we were spending and could just enjoy giving to those we love.

Now that my kids are older they know we have a budget and save each month for things like vacation and Christmas. And that if we want to do a big vacation then we have to plan smaller ones for the year or two before to save up for it. Having a procedure helps us stick to our budget which makes life less stressful. It also models positive money planning for our kids which is a lesson that will serve them well in life.

Be a financial role model!

Over 70% of Americans identify as financially stressed.
