This month’s Virtual Book Club for Kids author, David Shannon, was completely new to us so we went to the library to check out of bunch of his books. Good Boy, Fergus!
was the house favorite and we had a lot of fun doing a dog themed kids activity to go along with it.
The kids really enjoyed Fergus, the canine main character, because he reminded them of our dogs and how they sometimes act…especially out in public!
We love book and cook activities and decided to make our dogs some homemade dog treats for when they are “good girls”!
No Bake Dog Treats Recipe:
1/2 cup of dry dog food
1 c of oats
1/2 c of creamy peanut butter
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
1 tablespoon of honey
Mix the first three ingredients together and then stir in the cinnamon and honey. Once everything is blended roll into small balls and place in the refrigerator for an hour to chill. Makes about 14.
The treats smelled so good that my three year old kept wanting to try one and the dogs loved them! We’ll have to make some again soon!

I didn’t know you could make your own dog treats. Cool. We don’t have a dog, so we might have to make human treats. My boys want a dog sooo badly but I want them to be a little older first! For now, we’ll just read about dogs in great books like this one!
Ha! They smell so good even I had to remind myself not to eat it! Swap out the dog food for Cheerios and I bet they would love their “dog treats”!

We made homemade dog treats once. My dog absolutely loved them. We’ll have to try your recipe. I’m sure she’ll love it!
And they smell so much better than the store bought ones! These are super sticky with all the peanut butter and honey so they’d be perfect to put medicine in for dogs too.
