This number matching collage art activity is great for preschool kids! We used straws in a number and color matching art project to get us ready for summer. Preschool kids can work on number and color identification while creating textural art.
Number Matching Collage Art for Preschool Kids
To make this collage art, you’ll need only a handful of straws. We used three different colored straws for our picture, ut you can use as many different colors as you like. Simply draw a picture and add numbers to sections of the picture. Older kids can draw their own pictures and then add many different colored straws for a multi-textural collage.
I drew a simple picture of a beach umbrella to get us ready for summer weather. I added numbers 1-3 and told my daughter that each number represented a different color. Together, we spread glue over the whole umbrella section of the picture and I added one colored straw to each section. She was able to match the colors and identify the numbers as she went along.
Picking up and manipulating the straw pieces is a great fine motor activity for preschoolers. To further the fine motor work in this activity, have your child cut the straws into small sections with scissors. Cutting straws provides a fun twist on scissor practice.
Fill in the sections of the picture and enjoy the collage art with your preschooler!
