Do you have a child who is developing her pre-writing skills?

Want a super engaging, low prep, no mess activity that will get her excited about mark making and writing?

Who doesn’t?

All you need to do is add SPRINKLES!

Yes, the sprinkles you put on cupcakes and ice cream. Grab a bottle of sprinkles and get ready to make your kids smile with this fun and colorful sprinkle sensory writing busy bag!

This sprinkle pre-writing bag isn’t just super cute–it’s also super easy to make!

Supplies needed:
  • Resealable plastic bag
  • Sprinkles
  • Colorful Duct or Washi Tape

How to Make the Sprinkle Prewriting Bag

  1. Reinforce the 2  sides and bottom of a zipper seal bag with colorful tape.
  2. Make sure to fold the tape over both sides of each edge.
  3. Fill with sprinkles.
  4. Release all of the air before sealing.
  5. Seal the bag then reinforce the top with tape.
  6. Show your child how to make marks on the bag using his or her fingers.

Now it’s time to play!

Kids can use their fingers to mark marks, draw shapes, practice letters and numbers with the sprinkle sensory writing busy bag. There’s no wrong or right way to use it. Every time they are creating marks in the sprinkles they are developing valuable pre-writing skills they need for writing.

Learning with the Sprinkle Pre-Writing Bag

Before kids learn how to hold a pencil correctly and start to write paragraphs they engage in mark making and other pre-writing skills. These skills include visual processing, where they are coordinating what they see with what they are creating with their hands, and the fine motor skills involved in actually making marks.

For younger preschoolers and toddlers the sensory experience of moving the sprinkles around inside the busy bag is full of learning. As kids get older and they can start making more complicated drawings such as shapes and letters.

The fun doesn’t have to stop there!
