What do you do with two kids who love cars and rainbows? Car painting, of course! Our supplies: Paint in individual containers (in our case old container lids) Small cars that can be cleaned with soap and water Paper in trays (cookie sheets) A dish of water for the car wash Paper towels Then they drove their cars through the paint and then on their papers. In between colors the cars went through the "car wash" to … [Read more...]
Shaving Cream Rainbows
To continue our fun with color we played with shaving cream paint! Not only is it fun on so many levels, it's a perfect medium to use when exploring color mixing. The texture of the shaving cream allows kids to truly see how two primary colors become one. To make shaving cream paint you add a couple drops of food coloring to a mound of shaving cream and stir them together. We mixed ours in a muffin tin so each secondary color was in between its … [Read more...]
Seed Planting
As I've said before we loved The Lorax movie. The book has been a favorite of ours for years and I love how much even little ones take away from the story. But the movie brings it to a whole new level. The message of conservation is now larger than life and set to music. As soon as we left the kids wanted to plant their own seeds and help the earth. Even my 3 1/2 year old was talking about how trees make our air better. Woo hoo! So, this year … [Read more...]
Pipe Cleaner Science Experiment
Last weekend one of our favorite blogs, Teach Preschool, posted a fun activity she did with her class where they tie dyed pipe cleaner stars. As soon as I saw it I knew we had to make them. We were intrigued by the fact that the stars that she hung up on the door turned white again. Instead of just dying our own pipe cleaners we decided to do a little experiment to see if the sun had anything to do with the color change. The kids made a bunch of … [Read more...]
Making Homemade Valentines!
Do you make or buy valentines? We are homemade valentine makers around here! This year the kids went all out and worked very hard to create special gifts for their friends. My 3 1/2 year old loves superheroes, especially Batman, and picked out these cool superhero lollipops from Little Bit Funky! The idea is ingenious and was a huge hit. If you have a little one who likes superheroes you have got to see how easy she has made it for everyone to … [Read more...]
Paper Bag Playground (for Batman!)
We had a blast participating in Tinkerlab's Paper Bag Creative Challenge! I talked up the Paper Bag Challenge all morning and then gave my 3 1/2 and 2 year old each a leftover red paper bag. They picked out some art supplies and I left them alone to see what they would come up with... And a playground for Batman is what the 3 1/2 year old eventually created! And while I was seriously impressed with his construction skills, what was even more … [Read more...]
Groundhog Measurement
Happy Almost Groundhog's Day everyone! To celebrate we went outside this afternoon to enjoy the 80 degree weather and do a little shadow measurement (before the high pollen levels completely overtook us!) Earlier while the kids were busy playing I printed out this cute little guy and got out the sidewalk chalk. Gotta love activities with only 2 supplies! We went outback and the kids took turns standing in the sun while we traced and colored in … [Read more...]
