Chalkboard Easter Eggs

I have been loving all of the fun egg decorating ideas for kids I've seen this year!  One of my favorites was this idea from Super Mommy where she dipped her eggs in chalkboard paint.  I wanted to try it with my kiddos, but I was worried that we wouldn't remember to get them back into the refrigerator. So instead of chalkboard painting eggs we used egg-shaped rocks!  Genius, right?  Now they can stay out year round and be used in any way the kids can … [Read more...]

Today is the first day of Toddler Approved's 100 Acts of Kindness Project!  We are doing 52 Weeks of Kindness this year and are super excited to spend the next 4 weeks participating in the Kindness Project.  It's a fantastic family activity and I was thrilled when Kristina asked me if I wanted to give the first challenge! Picasso for Kids: Cubist Portraits

Art Projects for Kids: Picasso Portraits

We love doing kids art projects in the style of great artists for the bimonthly Kids Get Arty series. This month we had fun doing an easy Picasso for kids activity-- cubist-style portraits! We went online and studied lots of different portraits that Picasso had done.  We talked about the differences between his work and portraits done by other artists and looked at other cubist style portaits to find similiarities.  The 4 year old, 6 year old and I … [Read more...]

Fun Kids Craft: Upcycled Gingerbread House

Christmas Kids Craft: Upcycled Gingerbread House

This month's author for the Virtual Book Club for Kids is Jan Brett!  We checked out a bunch of her books from our library and have had lots of fun reading them.  My littlest one turns 3 on Saturday and is having a gingerbread themed party so, of course, the two Jan Brett books that got the most love were Gingerbread Baby and Gingerbread Friends! In Gingerbread Baby, Matti is a little boy who uses a special recipe to make his own Gingerbread Baby who … [Read more...]

Christmas Kids Craft: Homemade Snowflake Ornaments

Snowflake Ornaments: Easy Christmas Kids Craft

The trees are up in the kids bedrooms and they are ornament obsessed! They decorate their bedrooms trees with homemade ornaments each year and have been asking to make more ornaments since we made our angel ornaments last week.  So yesterday we made popsicle stick snowflake ornaments! We started by gluing three craft sticks on top of each other (above) to form the snowflake shape.  We used these funky shaped ones we had leftover from making mini … [Read more...]

DIY Spooky Spider Lawn Decor

Oooooooh! Spooooooky spider!  That's what my kids say every time they see the spider my husband made last year for Halloween.  We were re-landscaping our yard right before Halloween last year and we didn't get our outside decor up until the last minute.  Our neighbors go crazy with decorations and the kids did not think out house was spooky enough so my husband made this cool DIY spider lawn decor inspired by one we saw on the old Family … [Read more...]

Pumpkin Face Puppet and Halloween Finger Play

We have been having so much fun with our pumpkin face puppets! My two year old is very excited that she knows all her shapes so we made our faces out of different shapes.  The puppets couldn't be easier to make. All you need are a bunch of paper shapes, orange paper plates, and craft sticks.  Here was her favorite one--she is a big fan of the oval mouth! Then the older kids and I taught her the Pumpkin Face song and finger play.  And she … [Read more...]

Handprint Kid Crafts for Halloween

This morning we were pulling out our Halloween decorations and came across these adorable handprint crafts the kids have made over the years.  They are easy to make and fun to decorate with.  Plus you get to reminisce each year about how tiny their little hands were! Handprint Bat  The spider is simple to do, my 6 year old made this one when she was 20 months old!  Just paint the palm and fingers with black paint and press on paper.  Then reapply … [Read more...]
