As I've said before we loved The Lorax movie. The book has been a favorite of ours for years and I love how much even little ones take away from the story. But the movie brings it to a whole new level. The message of conservation is now larger than life and set to music. As soon as we left the kids wanted to plant their own seeds and help the earth. Even my 3 1/2 year old was talking about how trees make our air better. Woo hoo! So, this year … [Read more...]
Pipe Cleaner Science Experiment
Last weekend one of our favorite blogs, Teach Preschool, posted a fun activity she did with her class where they tie dyed pipe cleaner stars. As soon as I saw it I knew we had to make them. We were intrigued by the fact that the stars that she hung up on the door turned white again. Instead of just dying our own pipe cleaners we decided to do a little experiment to see if the sun had anything to do with the color change. The kids made a bunch of … [Read more...]
Making Homemade Valentines!
Do you make or buy valentines? We are homemade valentine makers around here! This year the kids went all out and worked very hard to create special gifts for their friends. My 3 1/2 year old loves superheroes, especially Batman, and picked out these cool superhero lollipops from Little Bit Funky! The idea is ingenious and was a huge hit. If you have a little one who likes superheroes you have got to see how easy she has made it for everyone to … [Read more...]
Red Hot Play Dough Recipe
This week we were inspired by all of the Valentine's Day candy in Target to come up with a new play dough recipe and science experiment - Red Hot Play Dough! Here's what we used: 2 cups of flour 1 cup of salt 1 cup of cornstarch 1/4 cup of cream of tartar 2 cups of hot water 2 teaspoons of oil 1 box of Red Hots candy (We used our crock pot play dough recipe, even though the consistency isn't as good, because we needed … [Read more...]
Paper Bag Playground (for Batman!)
We had a blast participating in Tinkerlab's Paper Bag Creative Challenge! I talked up the Paper Bag Challenge all morning and then gave my 3 1/2 and 2 year old each a leftover red paper bag. They picked out some art supplies and I left them alone to see what they would come up with... And a playground for Batman is what the 3 1/2 year old eventually created! And while I was seriously impressed with his construction skills, what was even more … [Read more...]
How to Make Your Own Rope Letters
This past Friday my oldest turned 6 years old! Six! I can hardly believe she is already that old. After a lot of thought she decided she wanted a cowgirl party (it was the idea of the pink boots that helped make the final decision) and we had ourselves a hoedown last Saturday! I'll post more party ideas in the next few days, but I though I'd start with the cool rope letter we made for the dessert table backdrop. photo by the Best part … [Read more...]
Make Your Own Heart Window Clings
Window clings have been holiday decoration staples for as long as I can remember. And while not all of the ones you can find in the stores these days may catch your eye, homemade ones sure will! Last week the kids and I grabbed some puffy fabric paint and some glitter and DIY'd some in no time at all. To make the heart window clings you need fabric paint, wax paper or tin foil and any add-in you want such as glitter or sequins. Squeeze the paint … [Read more...]
