DIY Minion Poncho Craft

Rain while on vacation? Bummer. Rain on a vacation you spent months and months planning for? A major disappointment if you’re not expecting it. Here in FL late afternoon showers are kind of our thing. Residents love cooling off each afternoon and are used to it, but visitors are sometimes surprised by how often it can rain. And are not exactly thrilled when they want to be making memories at an amusement park!

Last month we visited Universal Orlando with Family Forward and got rained on a time or two. Instead of putting a damper on our fun it gave us an excuse to get out our ponchos! My kids love ponchos now but did not feel the same way when they were younger. That inspired me to come up with this super simple DIY minion poncho! While ponchos might not be fun for little ones dressing up as a minion certainly is!

This darling minion craft is not just waterproof, with the free printable minion goggle printable included below, it is so simple to make. You can whip these up before a trip to Universal Orlando Resort and surprise the kids with them if it rains. What a fun surprise that would be!

DIY Minion Poncho Craft

Supplies needed:

yellow (or purple) poncho similar to these ponchos
Free Printable Minion Goggles download
clear contact paper
hot glue gun and glue
scissors

Once you have gathered all the supplies this minion craft can literally be done in minutes–it just depends on how fast you are at cutting!

Download the Free Printable Minion Goggles and cut out whichever minion goggles you want to use for your minion poncho.

Cut a piece of contact paper that is more than twice as wide as the minion goggles. Peal of the backing and place the minion goggles face down on the top half. Fold the bottom half of the contact paper up so the goggles are completely sealed.

Cut around the edges of the goggles making sure to leave enough of an edging so that the seal doesn’t break and water doesn’t get in. Then use the hot glue gun to attach the sealed minion goggles to the top of the poncho.

That’s it! Now you are ready to turn your kids into a minion whenever it rains or they want to dress up.
