Do you have a growing laundry pile, like me, that never seems to disappear? I get so excited when the dirty laundry basket is empty and the clean clothes are put away. However, this never lasts long. As a mom of 3 I wash a lot.
My little guys are always getting into something. They love to play in the dirt just as much as paint on paper, both are fun but can lead to stained clothes. My kids also LOVE ketchup and it always seems to end up all over them. I often wonder if they get it in their mouths. But ending up with dirty clothes at the end of the day often means we had a fun day. Recently I was looking for an alternative to my store bought stain spray. I found several recipes and came up with a DIY laundry stain spray I have been enjoying.
DIY Laundry Stain Spray
Supplies/what I used:
- glass bottle
- lemon essential oil
- glycerin
- castile soap
- distilled water
How to make DIY laundry stain spray:
Note my spray bottle was too small to hold the full recipe.
Mix together 1.5 cups of water, 1/4 cup of glycerin, and 1/4 cup of castile soap. I did this in a jar that would hold the recipe. I grabbed my small glass bottle and added 5 drops of lemon essential oil.
I then took my mixture and filled the bottle up. I gave it a light shake. I plan to fill the bottle up with the rest of the mix when I use it all. I will add more essential oils at that time. If you have a larger spray bottle I would add 10-15 drops of lemon oil to the mix.
It was not soon after I made this that my son decided to share his chocolate chip cookie with my shirt. I tried to remind him mommy is not a napkin, but I was excited to put my DIY stain spray with essential oils to work.
You can see the chocolate in the above picture. After spraying and washing later that day the stain was gone. Yay! Now to see what other stains come our way that we can get out with our new stain spray.
