We have a preschool name writing activity that really pops!
In fact some might say it’s a popping good time…and very popular with the kids…
Okay, enough with the puns, onto the fun!
There is nothing more empowering as a young learner than learning your own name. It’s one of the first words preschool kids learn to both recognize and write for good reason–it’s both motivating and meaningful!
But that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Kids have to put together a lot of different skills to be able to write their names and it takes a lot of practice.
We decided to make that practice hands on and fun by using bubble wrap!
Popping bubble wrap is a great fine motor activity on it’s own and if you have a little one still developing the fine motor skills they need for writing then save it for them to pop.
We decided to capitalize on this and use bubble wrap as a preschool name writing activity too.
To prep the activity take a piece of bubble wrap and write the child’s name on the back of it with a permanent marker. Backwards. Depending on the name this may be easier said than done. I’m guessing you can also write it on the front as long as you are careful not to pop the bubbles and let it dry before giving it to a child.
Then let them pop! Using the bubble wrap slows them down so you can correct letter writing form and talk to them about the letters and their characteristics. It’s also a ton of fun!
