What if I told you that there was something fun you could do with your family this summer that would cut down on whining, help your family bond, teach your kids valuable life lessons and make the world a better place all at the same time?
Would you think I was crazy? Or that I was about to suggest the latest parenting book or e-course?
The truth is making this summer one full of memories is pretty simple. The secret is teaching kids to think of others by doing acts of kindness. And I have some free printable summer kindness calendars to get you started!

Summer Kindness Calendars
Summer is the perfect time to focus on intentionally doing acts of kindness with your kids. The change in routine makes it much easier to start creating new habits and making a habit of kindness is one you’ll never regret!
When we first started focusing on acts of kindness at Christmas I knew that there would be benefits, but my husband and I were surprised by just how good it was for our family. Not only did our kids learn about helping others, it also changed the way they viewed themselves. They were empowered by being “people who helped” and gained confidence as problem solvers. They got into a habit of focusing on others which cut down on complaints and whining.
We were also surprised to discover that as we began to intentionally focus on kindness on a daily basis our stress levels decreased. Knowing we were going to do some act of kindness during the day as a family gave us a way to connect and something to look forward to doing each day.
Printable Acts of Kindness Calendars
Supplies:
- Cardstock
- Stickers or dot markers
- Summer Kindness Calendars for 2019 (download below)
- laminator (optional)
Just like the last 2 summers we’ve created an entire summer’s worth of printable kindness calendars for you. Each day has an act of kindness your family, group, or students can do and check off. The acts of kindness range from the super simple to more involved. I’ve intentionally mixed them up so kids can see that simple everyday acts really do make a difference.
The goal of the calendars is not to do each act of kindness on the assigned day, although you can if you want! Doing acts of kindness as a family shouldn’t be stressful or add more to your workload.
Part of the goal is to help you connect and be more intentional with your family so don’t over think it. Do the activities when they are convenient for you and use stickers or markers to check off the ones you’ve done. Focusing on kindness, not going in order, is what will make a difference.
Printable Summer RAK’d Cards
We have free printable RAK’d cards you can pass out when you do your acts of kindness. These are perfect for leaving behind when you do things like tape change to a vending machine or collect books for the library.
There are 3 versions included in the download that coordinate with the 3 calendars. Print, cut and use to spread some kindness!
Download Your Summer Kindness Calendars
Just print, laminate if you’d like, decide on your plan, and get ready to make some memories!

Hello! This is a great idea. I’d like to link to this and feature it in an article for a parenting site, but the PDF link isn’t working for me. Is the link correct? Thanks!
Megan Sheakoski says
Hi Gretchen!
It’s working for me. Do you have Adobe Acrobat? If so and it’s still not working email me a screenshot and I’ll try and figure out what’s going on with it!

Hi Megan,
Just wanted you to know I’m sharing a link to your summer RAK calendar with the 10,000 or so Washingtonians who receive our state’s caregiver newsletter. It goes out each month to foster parents, relative caregivers, adoptive parents and others in the caregiver community. I stumbled on your blog a few months ago and thought the summer calendar might be a great tool to help teach kindness, empathy and compassion to children who may had little of it in their young lives. Thanks so much for creating it and making it available to everyone. It is wonderful!
