Community Helper Thank You Act of Kindness

It’s week 2 of the 100 Acts of Kindness Project and we are focusing on acts of kindness in our community!  Kids love to make people’s day and thanking the people in your community that make everyone’s life easier is the perfect way to make someone smile.

At Christmas we were able to give treats and a card to our mailman, but couldn’t figure out a way to show the garbage collectors our appreciation.  In our town the truck dumps the cans into the back instead of a worker so leaving someone for them near the end of the driveway could be easily missed.

Luckily I saw this post from Pennies of Time about yard sign thank yous and knew that would work!

Make a Sign to Thank Your Community Helpers!

The kids used poster board to make a large thank you sign and we stuck it in our front yard in the morning.

And it worked! They were definitely surprised and excited to see a thank you sign when they pulled up to our house!

Week 2 Kindness Challenge

We announced the second kindness challenge on Sunday in our 100 Acts of Kindness newsletter, it’s not too late to sign up. Newsletter subscribers get the challenge before anyone else along with lots of easy ideas and resources for doing acts of kindness with your kids.

This week’s kindness toward community challenge is one that will definitely spread some smiles! To participate you are challenged to thank three community helpers (fire fighters, teachers, librarian, coaches, etc) in your town.

Community Acts of Kindness Ideas:

Kristina and I are so excited to have some inspiring bloggers join us in sharing acts of kindness ideas for the 100 Acts of Kindness Project!

  • Deb from Bits of Positivity has Family Fun with Operation Beautiful Notes that I CANNOT wait to do–we plan to leave some notes this week!
  • Kristina from Toddler Approved has a sweet thank you for their mailman.
  • We have also helped our neighbors by doing yard work for them as a surprise.

We were going to do this for our garbage collectors today…but now I think we will have to wait for a day without as much snow!! I don’t want the sign to get soggy overnight (they usually collect before 7 am).
